Shockwave.com: METALIX Tower Defense
I am confident that most of you played at least one tower defense game on the web , because this genre has it’s own…appeal. I, for one, am addicted to strategy games , and i enjoy the idea of destroying enemies as a result of my resourcefulness. Like any other tower defense games, this is exactly your purpose in Metalix.
At first view , this free game seems to bring nothing new to it’s genre , but it does look well polished and fun to play . As you start the game, you will observe some “surprise” elements, like the ever-changing path for the enemy waves, and the power to readjust the position of your towers on the battlefield .
The first few waves are not difficult , so you do not have to move your towers around at all (2 of them will take out all enemies without any upgrades, but things are about to change soon).
One aspect I did not enjoy is that the difficulty of the game is not increased after each level . Like I said , the first waves are easy, then it becomes a little more difficult, but you are still relaxed, and then…a big round of metal rolling things comes your way, and you realize that you are overwhelmed and need more towers than you can buy to take it out. And then of course you realize that there is no more cash for at least ONE more tower ( because this game has it’s way of making you spend all your cash after each round ). Then you will restart the game, and you will manage to destroy the big round metal rolling things, but only after you got bored to death with the previous waves , that are now far to weak for your well placed and upgraded towers. At this point , you will probably wish that the game had a “fast forward” feature…but there isn’t any.
Because of the changing trajectory of the enemy waves , there is also some “luck” involved in the game (this is a new feature for free online games). You might get a very twisted path that will be very beneficial for you tower placement, or you might get a very straight one, that will require you to buy more towers in order to cover a larger area.
The interface of the game is pretty intuitive, although you will feel like reading the game instructions at times. The layout of the HUD is excellent compared to other flash games, so you will be able to rapidly place another tower or move it around if needed.
The guys from Point Zero Co. created a very good tower defense game, probably one of the best of it’s kind . The nice layout, great graphics, challenging levels, and various options make this little game a great source of entertainment .
